House Judiciary Committee votes to hold Karl Rove in contempt

TPM is reporting some good news!  The House Judiciary Committee has just voted to hold Rove in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify regarding any involvement in prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.

The House Judiciary Committee has just voted to hold Karl Rove in contempt for failing to respond to a subpoena to the committee.

The final vote was 20 ayes and 14 nays. With Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) voting "absolutely, 100% aye."

Re: Woo Hoo!!! (2.00 / 2)

Even better is if they wheel him in strapped down and face locked "Silence of the Lambs" style.

They wouldnt do it, but oh how appropriate it would be.

Yep. This is just another teaser, and (2.00 / 2)

nothing will come of it. However, as you state, we should never miss an opportunity to link Rove to McCain as an advisor.

I'm sure they'll finagle a way out of it (2.00 / 2)

Rove will get pre-emtpively pardoned or somesuch BS.

There's no way that he can be compelled to testify against his masters, and as long as Justice is compromised, nobody will truly pursue him, either.

Re: I'm sure they'll finagle a way out of it (2.00 / 1)

Congress has Constitutional authority to arrest him itself.  No joke.  They just haven't done that sort of thing in ages.

I know about the mace. (2.00 / 2)

Yeah, the Sergeant-at-Arms can go present the mace to Rove, arrest him, and haul him back to Capitol Hill... but that's not exactly a flawless plan.

The Sergeant doesn't exactly have a wide-ranging network of officers to help him, does he?  Can he even conscript local law enforcement?  Could Rove simply go on "vacation" at convenient times to avoid him?
